So what if GoNabit is bringing a tried and tested model to the Middle East. How long would we have had to wait for Groupon to take notice of our market?

That's was really fast, kudos for the quick takeover.

The biggest and most used platform in the ME is Blackberry then comes iPhone, Symbian OS and Android.

Android though is an issue in the ME when it comes to apps as Android phones do not have their Marketplace open for the ME yet. Most of the people who use or buy apps they either Root(jailbreak) their phones or use European marketplace which for most will have only the Free apps. Although it is nice to have an Android app for it, it will be more experimental as no official and real market exist for it yet. The best would be releasging it as a European app as the first place and as for non-officials the good News is there are plenty of Android sites that serve and host the apps which is a big help at this stage.

Hope that hleps.

Just a quick update - we have added all GCC countries, South Africa and quiet a large number of Cinemas in India. Within a day or two will have all of India complete due to a partnership content deal that we signed. More than 500 Indian cinemas.
The version 1.3 is coming out this week (depending Apple's approval) which has additional user interaction (commenting, rating etc) and also further filmography data embedded.
Android is on the testing platform and inshallah should be out this week. Any suggestions for Android delivery market places in the Middle East and India? What are the biggest and best platforms used by ME users?
Thanks for your support,
Rgds

Thanks for the feedback Saleh - we're always looking for feedback from our users, and this app will evolve and improve over time.

Simplicity is key when designing for the mobile, and sometimes slow bandwidths and small screens force simplicity.

I really appreciate you taking the time to write a proper review.

I sure hope this is not Weyak2.0 indeed. With the attitudes and thoughts that flow in the 'big' minds here, its probably easy to be one, even without realizing it. But, maybe we need to give them a bit of leeway, just because du has a better track record than the others (no guarantee, though!) and hope for the best, for the sake of all of us. BTW, met a suit amongst them week ago, were talking about entrepreneurial engagement for the proposed platform.. maybe there is indeed something that may be different, only time will tell.

Very good insightful post, Saleh.

What alerted me the most is the fact that the whole idea is based on execs n' suits who are experimenting with web n' ideas. I would've loved it if they picked a small start-up n' bought them instead n' they're many of'em out there in the Arabia... such a waste it has to go through all suits n' those with "Vision".

I have my suspicions that it will look and functions in a hilariously outdated and moded manner. Something that takes over 2 years to build must surely be using "hip" and "cool" technology and design aesthetics from that era (2 years is a huge timeframe when speaking of the Web).

I'm sure pumping this kind of money into a project will get you visitors, but I have my doubts they could come out of this cash-positive.

We will see.
